Meet Grace and Sam

Hi! My name is Grace, and I am a fourth-year Communication Design student. Since my first year at UC, I have been fortunate to call Student Government one of my homes on campus. I originally got involved as a DAAP Tribunal general body member, hoping to meet a few new friends. What I didn't expect, was to find a space that would challenge me and ultimately shape the kind of leader I want to be.
Becoming Internal Holdover Senator was a pivotal moment for me. It allowed me to step into a role centered on mentorship. Guiding senators, helping them navigate procedures, and supporting them as they grow into confident leaders has been one of the most meaningful parts of my time in SG.
Across every role I've held, one thing has remained constant: I care deeply about building systems that work for students. As a Communication Design major, I am constantly thinking about clarity, accessibility, and experience. How does this process feel? Who is being left out? How can we design something better?
To me, leadership is about intention. It's about creating structures that are transparent, collaborative, and student focused. I have seen firsthand how much potential our campus holds when students feel empowered to step into a room and know their voice matters.
Now, as I run for Student Body President, I am ready to take everything I have learned, the mentorship, the collaboration, the behind the scenes operations, and use it to build something that makes sense for our students. I want every student to feel like there is room for them here. I want to be here for you.

About Sam Goodwin

Hi! My name is Sam, and I am a third-year Medical Sciences student hoping to attend medical school after graduation. Since my first semester of college, I have been deeply involved in Student Government, beginning as a College of Medicine general body member, then serving as a College of Medicine Tribunal Senator, and most recently being elected Speaker of the Senate in January 2025- where I currently serve.
Beyond Student Government, I serve as the Recruitment Chair for Globemed at UC, an organization dedicated to raising awareness and funding for a nonprofit that supports women and children seeking refuge in Thailand due to the crisis in Myanmar. Last summer, I had the opportunity to intern with this nonprofit, where I led a social media campaign focused on donor engagement. I am also involved with College of Medicine Ambassadors, my local church, and I enjoy crafting and rock climbing in my free time.
Student Government has always been especially meaningful to me because it is a space where I have seen real, tangible change happen. Over the past (little over a) year as Speaker of the Senate, I have witnessed a complete shift in the atmosphere of the Senate room. By intentionally fostering a culture of respect, collaboration, and open dialogue, we have created a space where, even in moments of strong disagreement, senators are able to work together toward solutions that serve the student body.
Serving as Speaker has required me to remain neutral, listen carefully, and support those around me. This role has strengthened my ability to think critically, navigate conflict, and lead with fairness. Now, as I run for Student Body Vice President, I am excited to step into a position where I can use those skills not only to understand issues, but to speak up and advocate for meaningful change. I want to be here for you.
